About Project Mag
Launched by Sir Richard Branson in New York in November 2010, PROJECT started life as a collaboration between Virgin Digital Publishing and Seven - with an editorial team led by ex-FHM and Arena editor Anthony Noguera. The aim was terrifyingly simple: to build nothing less than the future of publishing.
As the world’s first native iPad magazine, it had to look like a style magazine, but act like a website. It had to combine the enduring print media foundations – beautiful aesthetics and agenda-setting editorial – with the very best of “new” media: interactivity, speed, and shareable content. But it also had to pioneer – and that meant purpose-built infographics; live forums; GPS-located travel guides; and plenty more things we’d only think of on the day.
Only then could the magazine properly realise its core subjects: international design, innovation, science, fashion and business. Only then will A-list stars like Jeff Bridges, Stephen Colbert, Eric Bana, Lonely Island and more want to appear on its cover.
Of course, you also need some parachuting cats, zombies, nuclear weapons, The Dude on a beach, and an enormous pointless mirror in space. But hey: we added those too
